Anish is a General Practitioner currently based in North West England, United Kingdom. He began his medical career by entering the United Kingdom's Foundation Year Programme in 2018 after obtaining an MBBCh BAO from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. He completed his Foundation Training in Wales, spending 24 months working between Nevill Hall Hospital Abergavenny and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Ystrad Mynach.
In 2020, Anish entered the Core Anaesthetics Training Programme in the West Midlands. He worked for 12 months at Queen's Hospital Burton and another 12 months at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton. During this period, he also obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Education with distinction from Swansea University. He then spent 3 months working in the Accident & Emergency department at Downe Hospital Downpatrick, and currently works in General Practice in the Greater Manchester area.
Anish has always been a strong advocate for training and education. He also served as both IT / Communications Officer and Public Relations Officer for the International Conference for Healthcare and Medical Students (ICHAMS) and worked as a tutor for the Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA). Anish was the Founding Member, President, and National Coordinator for the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA) in Ireland. During his Foundation Years, he developed a hospital-based teaching program for medical students from Cardiff University and a mentorship program for junior doctors from Malta. He contributed as a question-writer for the Foundation Programme Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and holds an Associate Membership with the Academy of Medical Educators.
Anish's environmental interests primarily revolve around sustainable diet practices and alternatives to chlorofluorocarbon-containing treatments. He is actively involved with Health for XR (Extinction Rebellion) and is working on introducing sustainable food practices in Manchester, drawing inspiration from the works of Dr. Alan Desmond.
Aishan is a Vascular Surgery trainee based in Scotland, United Kingdom. He entered medical training in the United Kingdom after qualifying from the Irish Leaving Certificate in 2013. He graduated in 2018 with an MBChB from the University of Glasgow, undertaking additional undergraduate attachments in the Republic of Ireland, in General Surgery / Interventional Radiology (St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin), and E.N.T. / Cochlear Implant (Beaumont Hospital Dublin).
Aishan completed his Foundation Year training in Wales, United Kingdom, where he worked for 12 months in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Rhyl, and 12 months in the Royal Gwent Hospital Newport and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Ystrad Mynach. In 2020, he enrolled in the Improving Surgical Training Vascular Surgical Programme in the East of Scotland, working in Ninewells Hospital Dundee, Perth Royal Infirmary, Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, Stracathro Hospital Brechin and St. Andrew’s Community Hospital, completing MRCS with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then spent an additional 1 month working in Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and Belfast City Hospital, and completed the Integrated Fellowship / Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery in the World Laparoscopy Hospital Delhi. After spending 3 months working in Manchester, at Wythenshawe Hospital and at Christie Hospital (including in Robotic Surgery), he took up ST3 training at Raigmore Hospital Inverness, where he currently works.
Aishan is passionate about teaching and has demonstrated his commitment to medical education. In 2016-17, during his undergraduate years, he served as the first President of the University of Glasgow E.N.T. Society (UGENTS), which became an affiliate society of the European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA). In 2020, he served as a faculty member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland’s Masters in Surgical Science and Practice Teaching. Most recently, he was a faculty member of Doctors Academy’s MRCS OSCE Course in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Cardiff and an served as an administrator for the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) Transplant Surgery's European Board of Surgical Qualification (ESBQ) Fellowship Examination. He is endorsed as a trainer by the Royal College of Surgeons of England for Basic Surgical Skills and is a faculty member on the Scottish Surgical Bootcamps.
Aishan recently gained interest in environmentalism in healthcare. He is particularly focused on reusable surgical devices and instruments, and reducing greenhouse gas use in medical procedures. Engaging with the Scottish Government's Centre for Sustainable Delivery through the 'Green Theatres Programme,' Aishan is currently researching alternative inhaled agents to nitrous oxide for lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. His goal is to expand this initiative across Scotland.
Aishan has extensive experience in National Training Programme entry, having successfully applied and interviewed for programmes in General Surgery (North Wales, Greater Glasgow, North East England), Vascular Surgery (East of Scotland) and Plastic Surgery (Northern Ireland).
A distinguished Consultant in Histopathology, Dr. Kilgallen has been working at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin since 2022. Additionally, he serves as an Academic Senior Lecturer for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Dr. Kilgallen is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, gaining his MBBCh as well as Licentiates of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1988. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1990. After achieving Fellowships with both the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Pathologists, he became a Fellow of the Faculty of Pathologists and completed Higher Specialist Training in Histopathology in 1998.
In addition to his extensive experience in Ireland, Dr. Kilgallen gained further expertise whilst working in The New England Medical Centre, Boston Massachusetts, where he was Chief Resident. He has worked for three years in the NHS, where he was Head of Cytopathology in Antrim Area Hospital, Northern Ireland. Prior to his current position in Dublin, he served as a Consultant at Sligo University Hospital for over twenty years.
Dr. Kilgallen is highly-respected Nationally and was elected President of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) in 2022, having previously served as Chair of the Consultant Committee. He has been actively involved with the Faculty of Pathology in the Royal College of Physicians Ireland.
