Anish is a General Practitioner currently based in North West England, United Kingdom. He began his medical career by entering the United Kingdom's Foundation Year Programme in 2018 after obtaining an MBBCh BAO from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. He completed his Foundation Training in Wales, spending 24 months working between Nevill Hall Hospital Abergavenny and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Ystrad Mynach.
In 2020, Anish entered the Core Anaesthetics Training Programme in the West Midlands. He worked for 12 months at Queen's Hospital Burton and another 12 months at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton. During this period, he also obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Education with distinction from Swansea University. He then spent 3 months working in the Accident & Emergency department at Downe Hospital Downpatrick, and currently works in General Practice in the Greater Manchester area.
Anish has always been a strong advocate for training and development. He also served as both IT / Communications Officer and Public Relations Officer for the International Conference for Healthcare and Medical Students (ICHAMS), and was the Founding Member, President, and National Coordinator for the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA) in Ireland. He holds an Associate Membership with the Academy of Medical Educators.
Anish's environmental interests primarily revolve around sustainable diet practices and alternatives to chlorofluorocarbon-containing treatments. He is actively involved with Health for XR (Extinction Rebellion) and is working on introducing sustainable food practices in Manchester, drawing inspiration from the works of Dr. Alan Desmond.
Aishan is a Vascular Surgery trainee based in Scotland, United Kingdom. He entered medical training in the United Kingdom after qualifying from the Irish Leaving Certificate in 2013. He graduated in 2018 with an MBChB from the University of Glasgow, undertaking additional undergraduate attachments in the Republic of Ireland, in General Surgery / Interventional Radiology (St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin), and E.N.T. / Cochlear Implant (Beaumont Hospital Dublin).
Aishan completed his Foundation Year training in Wales, United Kingdom, where he worked for 12 months in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Rhyl, and 12 months in the Royal Gwent Hospital Newport and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Ystrad Mynach. In 2020, he enrolled in the Improving Surgical Training Vascular Surgical Programme in the East of Scotland, working in Ninewells Hospital Dundee, Perth Royal Infirmary, Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, Stracathro Hospital Brechin and St. Andrew’s Community Hospital, completing MRCS with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then spent an additional 1 month working in Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and Belfast City Hospital, and completed the Integrated Fellowship / Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery in the World Laparoscopy Hospital Delhi. After spending 3 months working in Manchester, at Wythenshawe Hospital and at Christie Hospital (including in Robotic Surgery), he took up ST3 training at Raigmore Hospital Inverness. He currently works as an ST4 trainee in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, working predominantly in Vascular / Endovascular Surgery but also in Cardiac Surgery.
Aishan recently gained interest in environmentalism in healthcare. He is particularly focused on reusable surgical devices and instruments, and reducing greenhouse gas use in medical procedures. Engaging with the Scottish Government's Centre for Sustainable Delivery through the 'Green Theatres Programme,' Aishan is currently researching alternative inhaled agents to nitrous oxide for lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. His goal is to expand this initiative across Scotland.
Professor Carroll is a Consultant in Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
After completing her undergraduate and postgraduate training in both the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom, she was appointed as the American Joint Council for Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery Fellow at the University of Toronto, Canada. She also undertook further research in Kentucky, USA.
Professor Carroll has a strong focus on surgical education. She serves as a postgraduate assessor on the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), examining in Dublin, Bahrain, and Dubai for the Intercollegiate Membership Examinations. She also serves on the European Board for Otolaryngology. In addition, she is a clinical assessor for the Department of Surgical Affairs' Faculty of Human Factors and Patient Safety at the Undergraduate Medical School of RCSI.
She was appointed as the National Clinical Lead for ENT Education in Primary Care, a role that bridges medical education and healthcare planning. As a peer-elected Council Member of RCSI, she contributes to the oversight of surgical professional development and governance of the RCSI Health Sciences Institution.
In alignment with the Health Service Executive’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and delivering environmentally and socially sustainable healthcare, the publication of ‘’Sustainability Principles and Practice in Surgery’’ was supported by then-RCSI President Professor Laura Viani. In 2022, a Council Committee on Sustainable Surgery was established, aiming to review emerging evidence on sustainable surgical practices, provide resources to reduce surgery’s environmental impact, and promote green healthcare models such as digital health and low-carbon alternatives. The committee also supports shared decision-making with patients, education and skills training, and alignment with the WHO Sustainable Development Goals.
Professor Carroll currently serves as Chair of the RCSI Committee on Sustainable Surgery.
